The Beehive Chair: A winning piece of true art for your home

The Designer

Graham Roebeck, the creator of this aesthetic piece of home decor – the Beehive Chair, is a New Zealand based architectural designer.

Overview

As it is, his very own creative idea for this particular piece of art has won great accolades for him by winning the 2011 Formica Formations competition. The whole inaugural of this competition was launched by The Laminex Group, encouraging the emerging young designers and architects, and also all the architectural professionals based in New Zealand, to participate in the competition and design a unique sculptural art in form of furniture. And Graham, having almost a pleasant experience of seven years in designing, managed to get selected as a successful winner for his “Beehive”.

Beehive Chair

There were top mentors present to judge the competition which included David Trubridge, a leading Designer from New Zealand and the award winning New Zealand architect, Ron Sang, the Formica US Vice President of Design Renée Hytry Derrington.

What’s unique

The Beehive chair is constructed from Lakepine Zero low emitting MDF that uses the Warm White Formica high pressure laminate to enclose on to the vertical faces of the chair. Moreover, beeswax is used for polishing the edges of the Beehive that looks extremely stunning and throws an elegant shine on the furniture core.

High Points

Graham has explored the current trend of highly portable art and media in his creation through the interpretation from the analogy of sculpture as frozen music. You can see the form of the chair coming from a guitar pick, egg and water gourd that totally interprets the frozen idea.

Beehive makes a perfect sense of art with its white and beige colors that blend uniquely with simple yet sculptural lines. Thus, it can be fitted into any corner of the room/office or even as the center art of that particular space to attract some great compliments for the users choice of selection. Comfortable in sitting and trendy in looks, the Beehive is the obvious winner in any environment.
