Capture time with the cage clock by Rus in Urbe

Cage Clock

If you like the principles behind a sundial, you are gonna really dig this cage clock. The clock uses the functionality of a lampshade with the theory behind a sundial, only re-imagining the celestial movements with the figures of two birds that function as the hour and minute hands.

The playful design by East London-based artist Umut Yamac features a clock dial with an extruding structure that has 24 wedges or fins that correspond to half-hour periods each. On the inside, a light fitted inside an enclosure features two clock hands in the guise of bird figures that circle within the cage and mark the time. The structure itself can be used in three different ways: it can be hung like a birdcage when used as table lamp, as a ceiling lamp when used without the supporting structure, or as a floor when it is placed atop a tripod.

The overall aesthetics of the design may appear to be more in keeping with retro, the 1970s style decor but the lampshade makes a great statement piece as a standalone as well. It might take a little time getting used to telling time with this design but will not surely ever leave you with a dull moment!
