Cube Tube a smart ice tray from Quirky

If you love using ice cubes in your summer drinks but hate having to refill the ice tray, you’re not alone. The mere act of filling up an ice tray and then transporting it to the freezer without spilling the water requires almost the same kind of hand-eye-feet coordination and concentration as surgery and despite your best efforts, you always end up spilling some of the water in the tray while placing the dumb thing in the freezer. However, design firm Quirky has a smart solution to people’s ice tray woes and it comes to us in the guise of the Cube Tube.

The Cube Tube reinvents ice trays

The redesigned ice tray basically comprises of an enclosed vertical ice compartment with a tube like structure to be filled up with water and an ice tray that can be pulled out as needed. To use, you simply have to fill the tube up with drinking water, slide in the ice tray AKA the divider, seal the tube up and stick in the freezer. Not only does it make refilling ice trays a breeze, it also makes a lot more sense in terms of ergonomics since ice trays take up a lot of space in the freezer and you can’t really move them around till frozen.

This vertical ice tray on the other hand, can simply be tossed into the freezer and stood vertically, horizontally or even in between other frozen goods if your freezer is a little cramped on space. What makes the Cube Tube even better is the fact that you don’t even need to struggle with it to get the ice out. To slip out the cubes, you need to gently tap the tube against a hard surface to loosen the cubes and then pull out the divider to get the cubes. You pour the cubes directly into a glass or a pitcher or an ice box as needed. The vertical ice tray retails for $8 a pop and would be available shortly through Quirky’s online store.
