EcoPod: Water efficient steam washer and dryer

The product:
Mr Simon Hedt from Monash University has made the EcoPod which is a combination steam washer and dryer for small space urban living. Intelligently designed, the product does not take up a large space nor a large footprint. It makes a daily chore hassle-free where people do not have to rely on outsourcing to a laundry service. The EcoPod is multipurpose as well as water –efficient.

Utility:
According to statistics, people are spending more and more time at their workplace and hardly have time for themselves. So often people do not have time to spend on domestic activities or might not have access to a laundry service or may not want to use a communal laundry. There is a definite need of clothes care solution for those dwelling in city apartments and flats and the EcoPod provides an original and innovative solution to all these issues.

How it works?
With simplified steps, the Ecopod is easy to use. The appliance utilizes saturated ‘wet’ steam for washing and superheated ‘dry’ steam to heat the air inside the barrel (much like a regular dryer) for drying. The EcoPod comes with three washing baskets or ‘pods’, each one of these baskets is allocated a different clothing type e.g. lights, darks and delicates (white, black and red colored baskets respectively). When the clothes are discarded they are tossed directly into their respective baskets, and once a basket/pod is full the lid is attached, the entire basket/pod is placed into the machine, where it becomes the washing barrel. Once this process is over the basket/pod is removed and returned to its stand where the lid is removed and the clean clothes are dispensed.

What’s unique?

Based on the current decor of urban inner city bathroom spaces, the EcoPod has common elements such as timber finishes, wall mounted features and a beautiful, floating, gloss white form. It’s a beautiful product that promises not to not occupy precious floor space. The EcoPod is also much more water-efficient than other products in the market. As also steam is the main element the product uses, there is no extra expenditure on washing liquids or powders.

The EcoPod creates completely non-toxic and eco-friendly ‘grey water’ which can then be dispensed from the removable ‘grey water jug’ which can be further utilized to water apartment plants and gardens etc. To wrap-up, Eco Pod is smart, water efficient multi-purpose product for green space cramped apartments.
