Hi-tech chopping board for your kitchen

Tak tak tak tak tak, there goes the swiftly moving knife on the chopping board while mincing the meat in a regular pattern. Before being cooked, the meat already looked like a delicacy. That describes an amazing Chef in a cookery show on TV. Everyone cannot be a Chef and dealing with a chopping board in the kitchen is not everyone’s cup of tea. Tak tak tak tak, and an ouch would have surely followed if I were on one of them. I would have surely minced my own meat alongside the stuff on the board.

If you thought that a kitchen chopping board was always just a dull and ugly looking thing to deal with, think again, it’s time to change your mind. Angela Higgins, studying BSc (Hons) Product Design has come up with a design of a hi-tech chopping board. The design is a package of electro-luminescent light and backlight. The electro-luminescent lights give clear visibility when chopping. Backlight illumination allows the user to see bacterial and organic stains to accentuate proper cleaning. It will also create a clear silhouette of the food on the chopping board. Smart play with the light as it will surely help a wide range of users starting from young children to the one with serious visual impairment.

To add to the delicacy of the design, it consists of an inbuilt scale and indicators. You can use the scale to view the immediate weighing of the ingredients on the board. How is that for a feature when you know quantity matters to stimulate your taste buds?! Coming to indicators, the back-lit symbols on the buttons indicate if it is engaged or not and the kettle like charger for the board. The chopping board is also embedded with a battery to use the device on the move.

Surely, a promising concept to take some safeguard measures when on the move with the knife. The future features of the chopping board would consist of voice recording and playback or a touch screen interface. Have fun with your cooking while you enjoy the technology.
