Cool control: Shake the remote, turn on the TV!

When I say home electronics, do you just think of television, refrigerator, coffee machines, vacuum cleaners and so on and so forth? However, what about accessories like remotes? Yups, I’m talking about our very own television remote, without which every couch potato's life would be so incomplete. Here is a cool, very unique remote dubbed, Shake Control, that works when you shake it well. Does that mean it works without batteries? Yes! Sounds unbelievable but it is true! Designed by Lee Sung Hoon, Kang Sooyeon, Cho Eun Bee, Lee Junehwa and Kim Jean, it’s a smart television remote that starts functioning only when you shake it.

How it works? Shake Control is a transparent case that has an arrow-shaped magnet inside. When the remote control is shaken, electromagnetic induction generates a 20-30mA current which produces energy to send signals across a distance of several meters via infrared light. When the tip of the arrow-shaped magnet hits the top of the unit, the remote control changes the channel or the volume. The tv can be turned on or off just by pressing the button and shaking. One direction controls the channel while the other direction controls the volume. When the arrow faces left, the volume goes down. When it faces right, the volume goes up. When the arrow is pointed up, the channel goes up. When it is pointed down, the channel goes down.

What’s different? Why use the batteries for such a product like remote that utilizes just a small amount of energy. The Shake Control is designed with this idea. One can turn on and off the television, control channels, volume and other menus by just shaking the remote in different directions. Moreover, there is no wastage of batteries. All in all, it’s the coolest and energy-efficient remote control I’ve come across. Hats off to the designers for their incredible innovation!
