Graffiti-laden “Hive” Home is unusual to say the least

Carlton, Melbourne is notorious for being a dense urban neighborhood
in the city. Designing a home for this location is always a challenge for architects.
However, ITN Architects’ Zvi Belling took the challenge head on and created a
home that looks like a honey-oozing hive. Working in collaboration with a graffiti
artist friend, Belling created a funky home that was upscale enough for the
neighborhood as well as comfortable and private enough for its inhabitants.

While the fact that the home gets a honey-like glow at night
is visually very appealing, we’re not entirely sure of how timeless the word
“Hive” written in a faux- hip hop iconography style would be and how appropriate
it would look when its inhabitants have their grandkids over a few decades down
the line.

The scandalousness of the home’s exterior aside, the
residence is actually quite suitable for modern day living. Hence, we get habitable
cross ventilating rooms that feature louvered ports and concealed sliding
panels as well as different zones within the interior itself that allows the
house to minimize temperature exchange through door arrangements.

The car park of the house also features the water storage and
solar panels on the roof of the home and plain concrete look on the outside allow
the home to remain eco-friendly as well.

On the inside, the home is marked by
clean lines and minimalist décor and plenty of geometric design that the
exterior boasts of. The open layout gets a modern fireplace while the white
interior gets a hive-like flooring and a brown area rug that adds to the beauty
and simplicity of the interior.
