Inhale your way to fitness with the Le Whaf

Futuristic and mind-bending. This is what describes the Le Whaf – a machine that promises to completely transform and redefine the very concept of eating. Order a desert, and what you get is a puff of flavored smoke instead of an actual dish. Each breath (or ‘whaf’) contains hardly any calories — so one can have as much as one wants without gaining weight. The brainchild of Harvard University professor and aerosol scientist David Edwards, the Le Whaf can be used to inhale alcohol as well.

One of two such machines in the world is available in Paris, where people can breathe or have as much food as you like without gaining weight. All one needs to do is to buy a specially-prepared liquidised version of the desired dish made by Edwards’s team. Once you switch the Le Whaf on, a cloud of tiny droplets forms in the goldfish bowl within a minute. This flavored cloud is then dispensed through a nozzle on the side of the machine. It stays suspended inside the glass for a minute before it sinks.

Edwards bills his creation as more than a mere concept – an “amuse bouche, a conversation starter” – and promises to have it out on sale soon. With 10 minutes of whaffing resulting in only 200 calories, here’s a truely novel way to fitness.
