Missing Pieces by Rupert McKelvie

Missing Pieces Table

Handcrafted from what seem like a gazillion jigsaw pieces, this coffee table is as revealingly beautiful as it is extraordinary. The U.K based designer who has a background in classical boat building and now owns a furniture design studio in Dartmoo, seems to have delved into rather philosophical waters with this particular creation. The artist used several jigsaw-puzzle sets with missing pieces, which would otherwise be considered incomplete and functionless on their own, to create something that is complete and independently functional. The name of this art work ‘Missing Pieces’ is inspired by its origin, actually!

Whether the inspiration for this piece came from Nek Chand’s Rock Garden or a floating memory of a tooth-pick craftwork piece he was taught by his teacher, the Missing Pieces (name of the table) coffee Table by Brit designer Rupert McKelvie is a delightful surprise.

Missing Pieces Jigsaw Table

Fashioned in the style of a pedestal table with a single, ornate heritage end table column supporting the impressively crafted top, the table features a three-tiered base. The elegant top itself is large enough to support a variety of tea things for a company of three or four.

Missing Pieces

For now the table is a standalone piece, although it would have been rather interesting to see what kind of chairs could possibly have been accompanied for this work of art!
