Pedro Domes’ Bounce Chair promotes health and well-being

If you’ve played with a hopping ball in your childhood, you’re going to absolutely love the Bounce Chair. Created by designer Pedro Domes, the chair’s shape is derived from the shape of Pilates ball and the hoppity hop ball. The chair comes with no backrest which means that a user cannot lean back into the chair. This forces users to keep their backs as straight as possible to keep the rotation center of the ball aligned with the vertical axis of the chair.

The round form of the chair also keeps it constantly in motion which means that a user has to keep his or her muscles engaged to stay put on the chair and to prevent it from rolling over. This creates a dynamic relationship between the chair and the user while forcing the user to exert physical force to keep it stable. The chair thus provides users with a mild workout even while they are just sitting on the chair!

The ergonomic design of the chair ensures that undue stress is never exerted on the user so they don’t risk an injury through the use of the seating. Since the chair doesn’t follow the lines of regular seating, it can also be used as a statement making standalone piece, an accent chair or even the center piece around which the entire décor of a room is built.

The round chair also breaks from the conventional angular lines of chairs and presents a beautiful and modern alternative to regular seating options. The chair was one of the finalists at the 2012 Design and Design Awards. The designer is currently developing a prototype for the Bounce Chair and has not provided any information on the pricing of the innovative seating though he plans on having the chairs available for purchase before the end of the year.
