Just look around your house and imagine a place where you can sit and read. You’d be surprised at the number of spaces that would fit the bill.If you have a broad window sill, there’s nothing like it. You can take advantage of the light coming in through the windows, get cozy with a few pillows and cushions, and add a bookshelf or a coffee table to keep your books. And if you don’t have a sill, pull up a table or a chair and you have a little reading nook ready.

Any space which seems bizarre and not right for anything else can be converted into a reading nook. You just need space for a comfy chair, a reading lamp or light and a place to keep your books. Loft, hallway or closet – all these can be transformed into an imaginative reading nook. If don’t have any of these, don’t despair, you can always use the floor in your living room or bedroom. A rug and a cushion or two is all you’ll need. Of course, you can choose to make a canopy and add a tiny bookshelf to complete the corner.

You need just a few things to design a nook which you’ll love.

  • Dedicated space

A space which can be converted into a nook like a bedroom corner space or window seat or any empty corner in the house or even the floor.

  • Book storage

A place to keep your books can be a bookshelf, a coffee table or any table, maybe even a trunk in which you can keep your books, throw on a rug and sit on top to read with a cushion behind your back.

  • Personal touch

Your nook can reflect your personal style. Some little bits and baubles will create an attractive and inviting space.Add some life to it with an indoor plant that will rejuvenate your corner.

  • Throws and pillows

Buy some throws and pillows to add comfort or just use the ones you already have from your couch or bed.

Step by step process

To set up your little reading nook, just follows these steps:

  • Step 1

The first step is to find a space. You may have some empty unused space like an alcove or a corner by the window, or you can rearrange the furniture in your living room or bedroom to make space. A space which is quiet is ideal as you will be able to read peacefully.

  • Step 2

The second step is to decide the kind of seat you want. If you have chosen a window sill or seat, it is already decided. Otherwise you might think about getting a cozy chair you can sink into or a bean bag or an ottoman or just some cushions on the floor.

  • Step 3

The lighting is the next step. You can read by sunlight in the daytime or have a floor lamp or reading lamp on a table. You could set up a funky light system too, like hanging some café lights from the ceiling.

  • Step 4

It’s great but not mandatory to have your book storage / shelf near your reading nook. It’s more convenient but if you don’t have space for a book shelf, you needn’t give up on creating your nook. Same goes for a table and foot stool etc.

To create a wonderful, cozy reading nook, all you need is somewhere to sit comfortably, light to read by and of course, a book to read!
