Thermochromic clock heats up to show time

Thermochromic Clock by CW&T

CW&T (Che-Wai Wang and Taylor Levy) have come out with an innovative time-telling device, Thermochromic Clock. There are so many clocks out there, some tell time with LCDs and others with LEDs. However, the Thermochromic Clock is different as it tells us the time by temperature changes.

This digital clock has been divided into seven segments and each segment is made out of a nichrome wire that is hidden under a thick coat of thermochromic (heat sensitive) black paint. The circuit of this seven-segment and four-digit timer of the Thermochromic Clock is managed by an Arduino. When power passes through the nichrome wire, it gets heated and becomes transparent and this is when the time shines through its four-digit form against the dark black background. Upon cooling, each segment turns back into its original black color and the digits fade away. This amazing clock can also be reset by wiping the surface of the clock with a cool damp cloth.
